Professor of Surgery – Organ Transplant Specialist

Dr. Saman Nikeghbalian is a general surgery specialist and the first liver and pancreas transplant surgeon in Iran. For the first time, they managed to perform a simultaneous liver and kidney transplant. This simultaneous transplant operation was made possible on an 8-year-old child from Mashhad at the educational and therapeutic center of Namazi Hospital in Shiraz with the cooperation of the organ transplant treatment team for four and a half hours and with the organ donation of a brain-dead child.

For the first time in Iran, a simultaneous liver and kidney transplant was successfully performed today in Shiraz.

This simultaneous operation of transplantation for an 8-year-old child was made possible by organ donation from a brain-dead child.

Dr. Saman Nikeghbalian the Associate Professor of Surgery and Organ Transplantation Department of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences said: With the skill of Namazi Hospital’s organ transplant treatment team, we were able to successfully perform the rarest simultaneous liver and transplant surgery on an 8-year-old child from Mashhad in a four and a half hour operation.

Dr. Saman Nikeghbalian added: Currently, Namazi Medical Training Center of Shiraz, as the third active center in the world, has been able to surpass European transplant centers by performing numerous transplant surgeries.

He added: In terms of specialization and focusing on performing rare transplants, this center has been able to gain the third place in the world after the transplant center of America and Spain.

Associate Professor of Surgery and Organ Transplant Department of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences said: Because this child was on dialysis, both transplants had to be done at the same time.

It should be mentioned that Dr. Saman Nikeghbalian is one of the worthy children of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad provinces and Sisakht city. “Quoting from shizyab.ir
